The Panama Papers are a leak of 11.5 million files from a database from the fourth largest offshore law firm, which has been utilised by individuals and companies to avoid taxation.

The government announced in May 2016 their plans to bring forward the introduction of a criminal offence for the corporations that are failing to prevent and stop their staff facilitating tax evasion.

During the March 2015 Budget, George Osborne, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, confirmed the government would be implementing their plans to introduce the criminal offence. The legislation is planned to be brought in during 2016 .
